Rasa Sayang

If you're wandering through Royston and craving a punch of Southeast Asian flavor, Rasa Sayang on 26 High Street might just be the spot you're looking for. It’s the kind of place where the aroma hits you before the menu does-steamy, fragrant, and absolutely packed with promise. Tucked in a cozy corner of town, this gem serves up a fusion of Malaysian, Thai, and Chinese-inspired cuisine that keeps both loyal locals and curious newcomers coming back for more.

What makes Rasa Sayang stand out isn’t just the menu (though we’ll get to that), it’s the way the experience unfolds from the moment you step in. There's a comforting ease to the setting-simple, casual, yet warm enough to feel like you’re in good hands. The restaurant is wheelchair accessible, with thoughtful seating arrangements that welcome everyone. Whether you're dining in solo or grabbing a takeaway dinner for two, they’ve got you covered.

Now, onto the food. Let’s start with the Egg Fried Rice-sounds basic, right? But this version is anything but. The grains are fluffy yet firm, perfectly seasoned, and make an excellent base for dishes like Kung Pao Chicken or Black Bean's Chicken. If you prefer something with a bold, spicy edge, the Laksa is a fan favorite. It’s rich, coconutty, and packed with noodles, tofu, and protein, all bathing in a broth that feels like a warm hug with a chili kick.

Feeling indulgent? Don’t miss the Sweet and Sour Chicken-crispy, tangy, and addictive-or its pork counterpart, which hits just the right balance of sweetness and savory. And if you’re all about those appetizers, the Spring Rolls are golden, crunchy parcels of joy, while the Thai Spare Ribs come glazed in sticky sauce that clings in the best possible way.

Another under-the-radar gem on the menu? Orange Chicken. Think crispy chicken coated in a zesty, orange glaze that brightens up your whole plate. Or for a twist, the Thai Chicken Curry is rich and aromatic, especially when paired with their Curry Sauce for Paratha, which adds extra depth to every bite.

One thing diners often note is how broad the menu is-plenty of options without feeling overwhelming. Whether you're after small plates to share or a big main to dive into, there’s a good rhythm to how dishes are served and portioned. It’s easy to try a few things and discover new favorites along the way.

As for drinks, Rasa Sayang isn’t shy. They serve alcohol, including beer, spirits, and wine, as well as coffee for those late-night meals that turn into long conversations. Speaking of which, yes-they serve late-night food too, perfect for those who crave something warm and flavorful well past dinner time.

And dessert? Absolutely. One of their hidden aces. The sweet offerings round off the meal just right, giving you a reason to linger a little longer before heading back out into the world.

Popular for both lunch and dinner, this spot suits many dining styles. Solo diners will appreciate the unpretentious vibe and efficient service, while groups can easily enjoy a spread of shared plates. If you're dining in, the space is relaxed and welcoming, but takeaway is equally convenient and consistent in quality.

Rasa Sayang blends familiar comfort with exotic charm. It’s that local place with global flavor, quietly doing justice to dishes that deserve to be savored-whether you’re hungry for nostalgia or simply something delicious.

Got a takeaway here for the first time and it was amazing! Best Chinese I’ve ever had… and I’ve had many! Didn’t feel rank after, food tasted fresh and flavoursome. Will be back!

Very friendly staff and lovely food. Theere wasnt much parking nearby which was inconvenient but it was 9pm on a weekend. We went on a Saturday night and it wasn't overly crowded. I found it very pricey for a local restaurant and although the food was tasty, it wasn't mind blowing, hence the four stars

The ribs could have used more sauce, and the char siu had too many vegetables and not enough pork. The pancakes were decent but seemed microwaved, causing them to stick together and tear. The duck and chicken balls were both good, while the fried rice was more boiled than fried but still had a decent flavor. Overall, it was okay—not the best place ever, but it got the job done.

We’ve just had a family meal to celebrate an 18th birthday. The food was all delicious and the portion size was more than adequate. The service was impeccable-. I honestly couldn’t find anything negative to say about this place - we were made to feel very welcome and nothing was too much trouble. Made the birthday girl feel very special so top marks all round.
